Parenting in the South Seas. Educational Skills in Remote Archipelagos of French Polynesia

The paper presents the results of an exploratory research on parental practices and attitudes in three peripheral archipelagos French Polynesia: Marquesas, Australs, Tuamotus Islands. Its aim was to identify parenting typologies isolated contexts using Parenting Skills Evaluation Scale (Échelle des Compétences Éducatives Parentales, ECEP) with 120 parents living remote islands. data analysis indicates that families such are a rather vulnerable situation relation schooling. Parental attitude is most cases normative, attributing significant importance school success, but domestic appear mostly liberal, characterized by unsupervised autonomy combined moments strictness, as observed other postcolonial marginalized contexts. Finally, article discusses efficacy ECEP valid measurement tool family studies, confirming its effectiveness.
